Pergola Combination Outdoor Fireplace and Plantings

The goal for this project was to take the client's existing backyard patio that they rarely used and turn it into a warm, inviting outdoor living area with a custom pergola patio cover. Our design team wanted to provide a space where the clients could spend time with their three young children, and host parties for friends and family.

We built a custom pergola awning that worked cohesively with the existing design of the client's home. We also wanted to achieve a sense of intimacy and enclosure for the space. This was accomplished by using a mix of deciduous and evergreen plants to serve as the walls. The overhead pergola patio cover provided a ceiling-like aesthetic. We completed the picture with the custom outdoor fireplace, which created a warm focal point for the outdoor room.

This was a spatially challenging project because the area we had to work with was predetermined by existing retaining walls. The Pine To Prairie design team went through a series of options and layouts on paper to determine the most functional and aesthetically pleasing design. The end result was a beautiful outdoor room the clients truly enjoy.
