The goal was to create a back yard retreat where our client's family could relax in privacy away from the city. We designed a low maintenance landscape using three main elements: a patio/entertaining space, a lawn/recreation area, and a focal point/water feature.
The placement and size of the patio needed to be large enough for a small gathering as well as have good access from the house to the garage. We used clean, linear lines to maximize space and provide a simple, elegant feel.
The water feature was created out of a basalt rock column, which was placed in a raised natural stone pond. The water cascading down the column landing in the pond is soothing and calming. The water feature is located where it can be viewed and heard from inside their St. Paul home.
